10 cents and the Secret of the Universe

I reeeeally like little people.  This tiny guy came and sat down next to me.  We had a chinwag about his red shorts and my red scarf (little people love talking about colour).  And then he showed me two 5 cent coins he was clutching in the palm of his hand like he was holding the secret of the universe.  I wish we in grown-up life could still see simple things with such sacredness and wonder.

People of Joburg – Krugersdorp

Shorty’s real name is Esther, but she has been called ‘Shorty’ for as long as she can remember.  I asked her which famous person she would most like to marry and she replied, “Ag, no Camilla, I don’t want to get married.  But if I had to I would pick John Cena”.  When I looked at her blankly she said, “He’s a WWF International Fighting Champion”.  Ameezing.

Well I never…

My lovely Aunt Karin sent me this email last night.  All is explained.  Thank you, lovely Aunt Karin.  Bryan Adams…who knew?

Hi Camils ,

Thought you might like these lyrics from a Bryan Adams song

If Wishes Were Horses lyrics
Come with me you can wish upon a star
You can do all the things that you’ve longed to
And you won’t have to wonder who you are
You can be anybody you want to
In a land full of promises and kings
All your best laid dreams are for catchin’
You can have the world to tie up on a string
Just close your eyes and imagine

If wishes were horses
Beggars would ride
All dreams and desires would ride along side
Worries and troubles would fall off behind
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride

To a land far or near come along
There’s an all new-round everyday glow
Like the young girl sang in the song
“Somewhere over the rainbow”

Say ‘Cheese’, please.

There is something so lovely and unexpected about photographs of people smiling with their eyes closed.  Made only better by them being lovely too.

Why is it in times of maxi stress and mini sleep we neglect the things we love doing the most?  I would pick hanging out on Ameezing the Blog every time over work, but as I’m going to say to my granddaughters one day “If you want the Louboutins, you’d better be able to afford them”.

Here are a few images from the last couple of days.  A wonderful moment that I didn’t get to photograph was three young British backpackers, complete with backpacks, maps and confused expressions crossing Jan Smuts and saying loudly in British accents, “Are we sure this is Jane Smuts Road?”

Post World Cup nostalgia.  My friend Ryan said “It’s like we’ve all just gone through a break up and no one knows quite what to do”.  Too true, Ryan, too true.

My friend Lauren is a med student.  Lauren delivered five babies last week. Her first ever.  The first one was a little baby girl.  Lauren you are ameezing.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about getting a pet.  Perhaps not a lion but maybe a cat or a small hound.  I would name it Leelo and we would be super happy.

I’m fascinated by homegrown philosophies.  Like this one. What does it mean? Who knows. But it sure is ameezing.

People of Joburg – New Doornfontein

I have known Ishmael for a few years now and always appreciate his great smile and light heartedness.  Ironically when I asked him if I could take his picture he said, “Ja cool, but I don’t want to smile”.  He took his red hoodie off for the photo and underneath was this great, pink t-shirt.  It went with the setting sun in the background like Tina Fey and comedic timing.  Perfectly.
